Representatives of NCWS, USA visited Ronald McDonald house in Aurora on March 14th, 2015 as part of their volunteering efforts in recognition of this years International women’s history month to acknowledge the contributions women make in our society. NCWS, USA is a great organization that advocates for women, and girls and has participated in various international events organized by the city of Aurora.
The women were warmly received by the supervisor for Ronald McDonald house Mr. Michael Cain, who showed great appreciation for the visit and encouraged the women to continue their good work of advocacy and care for women and girls in our community.
In her acknowledgement, the president of the organization Lady Jane-Frances Echeozo said “NCWS, USA is delighted to pay a visit to this house and the workers who made it possible for families to be able to stay close to their sick children receiving care from medical facility in Aurora. We thank you for the compassion you show to women and their families”.
In addition, the welfare officer of the organization, Mrs. Anthonia Idowu (Ret. Navy commander) expressed her excitement and encouraged the workers to continue the good work. INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S MONTH AND 4TH ANNIVERSARY 2014
THEME:
WOMEN ARE THE STRENGTH OF OUR COMMUNITIES

MARCH 22, 2014
VENUE: KNIGHT OF ST COLUMBUS HALL AURORA, COLORADO USA
PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS

Council Member Molley Markert

Representatives of Women Organizations in Colorado
Members of African Communities
Nigerian Community
Ladies and Gentlemen
International women’s history month is an annual event that is celebrated worldwide to acknowledge women’s contributions in our society, and also address issues important in our lives. On the other hand, NCWS, USA is 4years old. A fortnight ago, the Mayor of the city of Aurora, Mr. Steve Hogan read a proclamation recognizing women in the city and county of Aurora and beyond. This action by the Mayor reaffirms that the city of Aurora has great interest in the affairs of women; we thank him for the honor.
Today, NCWS USA is using this opportunity to thank every woman. As we know, where there is a successful woman is a man and vice versa. We therefore ask that women be encouraged to continue to do their best for their families, and communities at large.
As we highlight issues that affect us, we now ask that more women should be in government, while we applaud the state of Colorado for taking a giant step to ensure the participation of women in government.
Women in Government: : In USA, Colorado women rank the highest in the country in the legislature, filling at 41% of legislative seats (Denver Post, 2011). In Africa, women have stepped up to be in government, this is evident as we have women presidents, senators and women in the house of assembly. We thank countries like Nigeria, Liberia to mention a few. In addition, it is a startling reminder that there is gender gap in various aspect of the society.
Earning Power: In 2010, Colorado women working full time year round in business, management and other occupations, earned 79cents to every dollar earned by men.
Domestic Violence: On the other hand, the CDHS, 2011 report on domestic violence indicated that there were 61,335 domestic violence related calls, 38 people died
(CDHS, 2011). We are asking for more funding for more domestic violence shelters.
Bullying: It is imperative to understand that recent study on bullying identifies that 30% of women suffer from post traumatic stress disorder due to bullying. We ask that bullying should stop, because it has resulted in $19 billion loss from absenteeism, sick leaves, and $3billion loss in productivity.
Female Genital Mutilation: This practice is an abuse to the integrity of the body of women, and should be eradicated. This organization is using this opportunity to alert every one, that in Colorado 1,885 women and girls are at risk of FGM. This is after legislators passed an S.B. 96. Officially banning the practice in the state.
As we celebrate, we do not forget our significant others who have supported us throughout this journey. We ask women of the world to celebrate our hopes, aspirations and our great contributions to humanity.
Thank you,
Lady Jane-Frances Echeozo (President)
