CELEBRATION OF CULTURAL DIVERSITY AT BECKS RECREATION IN AURORA COLORADO
This event will showcase the relationship between the countries of Nigeria and The United States of America dating back to the 1960s to the present.
Also there will feature a guest speaker, Professor Christina Sigala from Metropolitan State University, Denver Colorado.

TASTE OF NIGERIA EVENT 2012

The Nigerian and American communities in Colorado witnessed members of National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) USA in their first ‘Taste of Nigeria’ event aimed at bringing together Nigerian women and their American counterparts, immigrants and refugees and the under-served in our communities to resolve issues affecting us as women, at the same time celebrate the great relationship between Nigeria and America..‘TASTE OF NIGERIA, 2012’
Primary focus:
•The event is aimed at strengthening our community involvement in making our city the best place to live, and to enjoy the diverse Nigerian culture.
•To promote and educate participants of the event, on the great culture of Nigeria in various areas (Economics, Leadership, Culture, History, Nutrition, Health Women and Society).
•To continue to promote peace and good neighborliness among Nigerians and Americans.
•To show Nigerian cultures from all ethnic groups and maintain our hospitality in a diverse community.
Facts from Taste of Nigeria:In 2008, 68% of the 80,800 refugees worldwide settled in the United States (Center of Disease Control and Prevention, 2010). Nigerians are the single largest contemporary African immigrant group in the United States. The USA has the world's second largest Nigerian community, only behind Nigeria itself. Colorado’s immigrant population makes up 10% of the total Colorado population. More Nigerians live in Aurora than any other city in Colorado. Nigerians in Colorado have distinguished themselves as great business entrepreneurs, professionals, sports men and women, politicians, educators and community leaders. According to the US Census Bureau, in 2000, 164,691 Nigerians were living in the United States (US Census, 2000). Nigeria is a country rich in culture.
With a focus on addressing the 2015 millennium goals, NCWS USA, believe it is essential that we actively participate in the promotion and education of culture, and also fostering our relationship with other organizations in our communities. Taste of Nigeria will provide a platform to disseminate practical and hands-on information, regarding steps to achieving great knowledge of African immigrants in our communities especially Nigerians.

National Council of Women Societies 2011 Summit will be held on the 3rd of September at the Holiday Inn Select Denver-Cherry Creek, Denver Colorado.
The NCWS USA Conference was held in the colorful Rocky Mountain city of Denver Colorado. The following was the ground work that led to the success of the Summit as detailed above.
THEME: Meeting the Challenges: Barriers to Empowerment of women
CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES:
1. Discuss strategies and initiatives on how to increase knowledge and skills towards empowering women and girls in our society.
2. At the end of the conference, participants will know and understand key issues on global health, economy, education, culture, leadership, legislation, advocacy, and refugees.
3. The conference forum will provide opportunities for mentoring, networking, collaborations between domestic and international partners.

CONFERENCE FEE: $50.00. NCWS is a non profit organization under section 501(C)(3) of the Internal Revenue code. All conference fees and donations to NCWS are fully tax deductible.

Cancellations must be received in writing not later than July 31st, 2011. No refunds will be given for no-shows, or for cancellations made after the above date. A processing fee of $15.00 will be charged for cancellation. NCWS USA is a non profit non political organization
